“My names Ross and I'm 27 years old and have been smoking for nigh on 10 years now. I've never been a heavy smoker, always smoked between 8 and 12 a day, but I've done the whole 20 fags a night when I've been out on the drink at times. I actually don’t drink that much as it is anyways. I blame myself for starting in the first place. I have a twin brother who smokes and I think back then I maybe copied him into doing it and then I got hooked. BIG MISTAKE.

You see I'm a fairly active kinda guy. I love weight lifting, walking and especially fishing. Mainly fly fishing, so that involves a lot of walking and hiking at the best of times too. I've decided to make a conscious effort to quit smoking for good because I've moved house with my girlfriend and mainly because I'm wanting a healthier lifestyle again too as other people may have already mentioned. I sure as heck don’t want to have a heart attack by the time I'm 40 as I've read in some stories too. I've been feeling quite anxious the past couple of weeks, what with work stress and the stress of moving, but the smoking without a shadow of a doubt has defo not helped me and now that I've stopped, I don’t feel anxious, just a tad grumpy and short tempered. hahahaha

I'm joining squash with one of my mates at work to kick start this healthy lifestyle change again. I've been thinking for years on when to give up. My parent's have persistently asked me "when are you going to give up", and I've always put it off because i thought to myself that I enjoyed smoking, but that’s so not the case. Nicotine is a right evil little thing. I've read the books on how to stop smoking, so it's not as if I don’t know what the psychological side of its all about……………..i do. The problem lies in adjusting to the whole not smoking, habits, times etc etc. Yes it's very true. As I've typed this, I've already had a couple of smoking pangs, but I'm just ignoring it and telling myself that I don’t need it and the benefits of it all.

The whole world would be a better place if nobody smoked, that’s what I think.

Best of luck to anyone else who's wanting to quit, I'd say just do it. Forget NRT, will power is the best, so test yourself and see how you get on.
